Strategic Marine - International Shipbuilding

Strategic Marine is a global shipbuilder with established shipyards in Australia, Singapore, Vietnam and Mexico, specialising in aluminium and steel construction.

Strategic Marine is a dynamic Western Australian-owned shipbuilding company with an international outlook and a rapidly growing reputation for producing quality, high performance vessels for markets across the globe.

The first decade of operations saw a rapid level of growth, with the company winning new orders to the value of more than $420 million. We have consolidated our position as a global shipbuilder, employing a staff of more than 1,600 across our shipyards.

Quality aluminium vessels

Specialising in aluminium vessels, Strategic Marine has produced more than 360 quality craft, including:

  • Government high-speed patrol boats
  • Offshore oilfield service vessels
  • Harbour and towage vessels
  • Passenger vessels
  • Commercial fishing boats

Our growing portfolio has seen our capabilities expand to offering larger, purpose-designed and built steel vessels. We also offer maritime solutions to clients, including:

  • Refit and repair
  • Project and finance management
  • Training and logistics services

Meeting demands of the global market

Strategic Marine will continue to focus on expanding business within the international market as we move to diversify our areas of operations to meet global demand.

Our record of excellence in the areas of offshore maritime design and construction, pre and post delivery services and proven ability to remain within budget, has been underpinned by a history of repeat business from respected international clients. We have consistently proved our capability to provide our clients, whether they are government, private or commercial, with a high level of efficiency and effectiveness.

As demand on our current shipbuilding capacity steadily increases, Strategic Marine continues to actively seek out new opportunities to expand. Focusing on building for the future, Strategic Marine continues the expansion of our global shipbuilding capacity with the focus now turning towards European markets.

Business management systems

Strategic Marine's long-established business management systems ensure that specifications are met and that company operations are managed professionally every step of the way.

These systems strengthen Strategic Marine's continued success in increasing local workforce skills to international standards. This has provided overseas shipyards with the necessary skills to grow into premier shipbuilding facilities.

Training of local workforces

Strategic Marine’s ability to seamlessly transfer skills and technology to offshore shipyards has been proven time and time again. Our commitment to training local workforces was a key driver in pioneering the first apprenticeship scheme in Vietnam. This Strategic Marine sponsored scheme will see 55 Vietnamese trainees undertake a two-year course in a range of specialised shipbuilding practices, providing the theoretical and practical experience they need to become skilled welders and fabricators.

The scheme was developed in conjunction with Vietnam's Hong Lam Vocational College and has been adapted from similar programs currently operating in Australia. It is expected to boost the national government's plans to expand and modernise its shipbuilding industry, while helping the company to further upgrade skill levels at the yard.
